A versatile worker in the cultural sector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I am Aleksi Moine, a 33-year-old freelance entrepreneur in the arts and culture. I currently work mainly as a literary translator and performing artist. Alongside my work, I am finishing my PhD in Folklore Studies at the University of Helsinki. I have also worked in the field of education\u2014I have taught languages in secondary schools and upper secondary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My background is broadly in cultural studies. I have studied literature, classics, Norse medieval history and Finnish language and culture. I am very interested in social and historical processes that explain contemporary society but at the same time offer new perspectives on human life and social phenomena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An international Helsinki resident<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I was born and raised in a French-Finnish family in Paris. I left France in 2011. I lived in Austria, Iceland and Denmark for a few years and moved to Helsinki in 2017 to get to know my second hometown, where I spent all my summer holidays as a child. I have lived in different parts of the city: Kallio, Punavuori, Pakila, Pajam\u00e4ki and now Pihlajisto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I like about Helsinki is that it is close to nature and easy to get around by bike, and at the same time there is a vibrant cultural life. I think it is important that the city offers local services to all residents, both in the city centre and in the suburbs. The solutions that work in other European cities inspire my own thinking about what Helsinki could be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An active member of organisations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I am running for the Helsinki City Council because I want to be involved in improving the everyday lives of everyone. I joined the Left Alliance in the spring of 2020 and quickly found myself in positions of trust. For four years I have been on the board of my local organisation Vasemmistolinkki, of which I am the chairperson this year. I am also a member of the Left Alliance’s Helsinki district board, where I am responsible of training members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have always been interested in making a difference, especially at a local level, and building community is important to me. I am currently active in the residents’ association of my own housing association and have often been a student representative at the university\u2014for example, as the chair of the Helsinki University Doctoral Researchers Association in 2022-2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
